About Royal Zanzibar

Royal Zanzibar is an all-inclusive beach resort on the island's shore, and it is a popular last stop for safaris that continue to Zanzibar. After days in a vehicle, the idea is simple: stay in one place, let the resort look after you and spend a few days resting.

From the air, the resort shows lagoon-style pools and a long sweep of white sand beach. An infinity pool looks over the Indian Ocean, lined with loungers and thatched parasols. It is a spacious, resort-style layout rather than a small, intimate camp, with room to spread out and plenty to enjoy without leaving the grounds.

Suites feature four-poster beds and balconies facing the ocean, and meals are served buffet-style in a copper-accented restaurant. Mid-range and fuss-free, the stay suits couples, families and friends who would rather have everything included than plan each meal and drink, with the beach just steps away.

  • All-inclusive stay, so meals and drinks are largely taken care of
  • Beachfront position with white sand and Indian Ocean views
  • Lagoon-style pools plus an infinity pool by the sea
  • Four-poster suites with private ocean-view balconies
  • Buffet restaurant with copper accents and plenty of choice
  • Sun loungers and thatched umbrellas lining the pool edge

Setting

The resort lies on the shore of Zanzibar, with a wide white sand beach and pools set close to the water. Aerial photographs show lagoon-style swimming areas laid out between the buildings and the sea. Expect warm, humid air, sea breezes and a calm, holiday atmosphere. Tides affect the shoreline, so ask us what to expect for swimming and walks on the beach.

Rooms and tents

Suites are spacious and comfortable, with four-poster beds and private balconies looking out to the ocean. The look is classic resort style, with plenty of light and sea views. Inclusions and room categories can vary, so ask us to confirm the details for your dates. If you travel as a family or group, tell us early so we can check the best layout with the resort.

Dining

As an all-inclusive resort, meals are served buffet-style, with chafing dishes and a good deal of choice laid out in the main restaurant. The buffet approach suits mixed groups, and families in particular. Exactly what the package covers, including drinks, can vary, so ask us to confirm. Tell us about dietary needs before you travel so we can pass them on.

Things to do from here

  • Long beach walks and swimming in the Indian Ocean
  • Lounging by the infinity pool
  • Snorkelling and boat trips arranged through Lemala
  • Stone Town day trips for history and markets
  • Spice plantation visits to see cloves and nutmeg

When to stay

Zanzibar is at its best from June to September, with drier weather and brighter seas, and again in December and January. The long rains, roughly March to May, bring heavy showers and humid air, while the short rains arrive around November. Humpback whales are seasonal visitors offshore, though sightings are never guaranteed. The resort is warm year round, so choose your dates by how much rain you are happy to tolerate.

Good to know

  • The all-inclusive package has its own terms. Ask us to confirm what is covered and what costs extra.
  • Excursions to Stone Town, reefs or spice farms can be arranged through Lemala. Ask us to confirm options.
  • Resorts of this kind can feel lively in peak months. Tell us if you prefer a quieter stay and we will advise.
