About Tarangire Katikati Tented Camp

Katikati is a practical tented camp on the Tarangire circuit, built for guests who care more about time in the park than about resort extras. The idea is simple: a comfortable bed, a hot meal and a short route to some of northern Tanzania's most rewarding elephant country.

Each tent is en suite, which takes the hassle out of early mornings and late returns from the park. There is a restaurant on site, and the camp is described as having wildlife viewing from its grounds, so even a pause between drives can bring something to watch.

Photography of the camp is still pending, so we are keeping the description grounded in what we know rather than guessing at the decor. Think of it as a sensible, budget-friendly base that lets you put more of your safari fund into guides, game drives and the other stops on your route.

  • En-suite tents for comfort without the resort price
  • Placed on the Tarangire circuit for easy park access
  • On-site restaurant serving guests throughout the stay
  • Wildlife viewing from the camp itself
  • Good value stop within a longer northern itinerary

Setting

Tarangire is famed for its baobab trees and for elephant herds that gather along the river in the dry months. The camp sits on the park's circuit, so you are in the right country for that spectacle without needing a long journey each day. Expect typical dry-bush surroundings, with open woodland, scattered baobabs and plenty of birdlife around the grounds.

Rooms and tents

Accommodation is in en-suite tents, a straightforward format that gives you your own bathroom and a sheltered place to rest between drives. Because photography is still to come, we would rather not describe finishes we cannot verify. Expect clean, simple, practical rooms, and ask us if you need details on bed layouts, family arrangements or anything else before booking.

Dining

The camp has a full-service restaurant, so breakfast, lunch and dinner are typically taken together on site. Expect hearty, uncomplicated food of the kind that suits a long day in the park, with early breakfasts on game-drive days. Packed meals can often be arranged for full days out. Let us know about any dietary requirements ahead of arrival and we will pass them on.

Things to do from here

  • Game drives among Tarangire's elephant herds
  • Birdwatching in the park and around camp
  • Photography stops beside baobabs
  • Night drives, where arranged on your itinerary

When to stay

Tarangire is at its best from June to October, when the dry season draws elephants, zebra and wildebeest towards the river and the grass is short enough for easy viewing. The long rains usually arrive from March to May and the short rains in November and December, when the park turns green and the birdlife is lively, though some tracks can be slower going.

Good to know

  • Photography is pending, so ask us for the latest on room style, layout and facilities before you decide.
  • Tented camps often have limited power and patchy signal, so bring spare batteries and expect a digital pause.
  • Ask us to confirm child policies and family room options if you are travelling with younger guests.
  • Transfers between parks and the camp are arranged by Lemala as part of your itinerary.
