About Burunge Tented Lodge

Burunge Tented Lodge stands on the boundary of Tarangire National Park, which puts you in position for an early start into one of the densest elephant landscapes in Africa. It offers tented comfort at a mid-range level, with plenty of character and a friendly, unfussy feel from the moment you arrive.

The guest tents are raised on stilts beneath thatch, with private balconies and a bush outlook. They catch the golden hour beautifully, and the main building, with its thatched roof, looks out toward the pool and the surrounding scrub. Dark polished wood and draped nets add a homely touch inside.

It works well as a base for a slower-paced stay, whether you are travelling as a couple or with children. The mix of family tents, a pool and Wi-Fi gives you ways to relax in the middle of the day, once the heat builds and the animals rest.

  • Raised thatched tents on stilts overlooking the Tarangire boundary
  • Private balconies, some with hammocks, for quiet bush views
  • Four-poster canvas tent beds draped with netting
  • Thatched main building with pool and sun loungers
  • Family tents with twin canopy beds and dark wood floors
  • Restaurant and Wi-Fi alongside wildlife views

Setting

The lodge lies on the edge of Tarangire National Park, among open bushland that is part of the wider ecosystem. Elephants, giraffe and other animals move through this landscape, so the view from your balcony can be lively. Aerial views show the thatched main building and pool tucked into the bush, with Tarangire's baobabs and long horizons beyond.

Rooms and tents

Guest tents sit on raised platforms under thatch, each with a private balcony where a hammock invites an afternoon rest. Inside, expect a canvas tent bedroom with a draped four-poster bed, while the family tents have twin canopy beds and polished dark wood flooring. They combine the feel of a tented camp with sturdier comforts than a basic bush camp.

Dining

There is a full-service restaurant in the thatched main building, and the pool area is the natural place for a drink or lunch after the morning's game drive. Free Wi-Fi is available, which is helpful for sharing photographs. Meals are generally hearty and friendly rather than formal, and special dietary needs are best flagged to us before you travel.

Things to do from here

  • Early-morning game drives in Tarangire
  • Birdwatching from the balcony and in the park
  • Looking for elephant herds near rivers
  • Swimming and sunbathing by the pool
  • Photography at golden hour

When to stay

Tarangire is at its best from June to October, when the dry season draws elephants and other animals to the rivers and the view is clear. The long rains arrive roughly from March to May, scattering wildlife and turning the park green, and the short rains follow around November and December. If elephants are your priority, aim for the drier months.

Good to know

  • The lodge is on the park boundary, so park entry and game drives start from outside the gate.
  • Raised tents involve steps, so ask us to confirm accessibility needs before booking.
  • Ask us about family tent arrangements and child policies for your group.
  • Wi-Fi coverage can vary around the property, so do not rely on it for essential work.
