About andBeyond Lake Manyara Tree Lodge
Lake Manyara Tree Lodge is described as the sole permanent stay within the national park, and its suites are lifted high into the leafy groundwater forest. The vantage point is different from lodges on the park's edge, since you live among the trees rather than looking in at them. It makes for a quieter, more immersive stay inside the park boundary.
The interiors are rich and characterful, with a thatched shingle ceiling, carved figures, candlelight and a wood-panelled bar decorated with traditional weapons and framed photographs. It feels like a well-travelled private house more than a hotel, with plenty of detail to look at and a mood that rewards slow evenings.
Outside, a round stone-edged pool sits among the forest canopy, so even downtime is spent in leafy surroundings. It is a lovely contrast to the open plains elsewhere on a northern circuit, and a calm place to unwind after a day in the park, with leafy views from almost every corner of the property.

Setting
The lodge stands within Lake Manyara National Park, in the lush groundwater forest that fringes the soda lake below the Rift Valley escarpment. The setting is green, shaded and full of birdsong, with troops of baboons and monkeys often seen in the area. The wall of the Rift Valley rises behind, giving the whole park a dramatic backdrop.

Suites are treehouse-style, raised among the trees, with a draped four-poster bed, a woven chain room divider and en-suite bathrooms. The use of timber, thatch and soft fabrics makes them feel part of the forest, and the elevation means views are often of foliage and wildlife rather than other buildings. When to stay
The dry months from June to October, extending into November, are the most comfortable for game viewing, with easier tracks and animals gathering near water. The long rains arrive roughly from March to May, when the forest is at its greenest but some roads can be slow, and the short rains usually come in November and December. The lake and its birdlife change with the water levels through the year.
