About Lemala Nanyukie

Lemala Nanyukie opened in October 2018 in the eastern part of the central Serengeti, and its name means 'endless plains' in Maasai. It matches the comfort and service of the other lodges in the Lemala luxury collection, and it sits about a 60-minute drive east of the Seronera airstrip.

The lodge stands on grassy savanna dotted with rocky kopjes and shaded by ancient giant acacias, with views across the plains. The area is crossed by the annual migration, has dense game at all times, and is known for its big cats, so much so that it was recently set aside for predator research, especially cheetah.

Fifteen suites are spaced well apart for privacy. Canvas walls, cathedral-like ceilings and broad hardwood decks give a light contemporary feel, with whites and neutrals warmed by textured fabrics and wood.

  • Fifteen suites spaced well apart for privacy
  • A private deck with sunken seating and a plunge pool
  • Kopje and acacia setting with grassland views
  • A two-bedroom suite for families and friends
  • Main lodge with lounge, bar, pool and a separate spa tent
  • Open year-round, with high-density game viewing

Setting

Nanyukie sits on open savanna in the central Serengeti, with granite kopjes, giant acacias and the plains rolling away beneath a huge sky. The area is renowned for its concentration of cats and sees the annual wildebeest migration pass through. Game drives and walks are led by Lemala guides, and the lodge is open all year.

Rooms and tents

Fifteen suites (thirteen standard and one two-bedroom suite) have canvas walls, high tented ceilings and wide hardwood decks. Features include an oversized bed, a spacious lounge, and a generous bathroom with a double vanity, indoor and outdoor showers and a freestanding bathtub. The deck has sunken seating, an outdoor shower and a corner plunge pool with views over the grasslands. Triples are available on request.

Dining

The main double-height area holds a comfortable lounge and bar, an outdoor viewing deck leading to the swimming pool, and indoor and outdoor dining areas. Lemala arranges bush breakfasts and lantern-lit dinners, and the campfire is the place for a drink and stories after dinner. A separate spa tent among the trees offers secluded treatments.

Things to do from here

  • Game drives with Lemala's guides
  • Guided walks on the savanna
  • Cheetah and big-cat watching in predator country
  • Bush breakfasts and lantern-lit dinners
  • Spa treatments in the tent among the trees
  • Swimming at the main pool

When to stay

Nanyukie is open all year, and the area has high-density game at all times. The annual migration passes through, usually around April to June and again from about November to January, though the herds follow the rains and timing varies. The dry season from roughly June to October is the easiest for game viewing.
