About Lahia Tented Lodge

Lahia is built around a single idea: the plains should be in view from nearly every corner. Thatched tents stand on stilts above the grassland, and the main lodge has tall windows so that even dinner has a view. It is a good fit for travellers who want to feel they are right in the middle of the Serengeti.

Photographs show an infinity pool at dusk beside the main building, suites with a daybed and glass from floor to ceiling, and a lounge with green sofas gazing out across the open country. Golden light pours down a long dining corridor in the evenings, and sunrise lifts over the tents at first light.

The location in central Serengeti is helpful, since game viewing here is usually steady across the year. Lemala often places Lahia in fly-in and mountain-then-safari itineraries, where a comfortable camp in the heart of the park saves effort and keeps drives short. Ask us how it fits the pace and wildlife interests of your own trip.

  • Stilted, thatched tents above the open plains
  • Floor-to-ceiling windows in the suites, with a daybed to lounge on
  • Infinity pool beside the main lodge, lovely at dusk
  • Green-sofa lounge with panoramic views of the grassland
  • Dining corridor warmed by golden sunset light
  • Central Serengeti position for steady wildlife throughout the year

Setting

Lahia stands in the central Serengeti, an area of open grassland where the horizon seems very far away. The stilted tents lift guests above the plains for a longer view, and the main lodge looks out in all directions. Central Serengeti is known for its predators and its reliable year-round game, so there is usually something moving in the distance.

Rooms and tents

Guest tents are raised on stilts and finished with thatched roofs, so the plains view starts at the bed. Suites include a daybed and windows running from floor to ceiling, which make the landscape part of the room. Expect a comfortable, light-filled space with canvas and timber, and take time to sit out and watch the sunrise from the tent.

Dining

Meals are served in the thatched dining area, where a corridor of tall windows catches the late sunlight and keeps the view in front of you. Guests can expect a full-service restaurant, with breakfast, lunch and dinner that suit the rhythm of game drives, and picnic meals possible when you are out for the day. Tell us about dietary needs ahead of arrival.

Things to do from here

  • Game drives across the central Serengeti plains
  • Sunrise from your stilted tent
  • Evenings in the lounge with the plains in view
  • Afternoons at the infinity pool
  • Optional balloon flight over the plains, arranged by Lemala

When to stay

Central Serengeti offers good game viewing across the year, but the favourite months are July to October, when the dry season concentrates animals, and January and February, when the green plains are lively with young animals. The long rains usually run from March to May and the short rains in November and December, with some roads becoming slower in the wetter spells.

Good to know

  • Tents are raised on stilts, so expect steps. Ask us if guests have mobility needs.
  • Power and connectivity can be limited at a remote tented camp. Ask us what is available.
  • Lemala arranges all transfers, drives and any flights. Ask us to confirm child policies for your dates.
  • Wildlife is wild, so sightings cannot be promised, however reliable the area.
