About Ndutu Kati Kati Tented Camp

Ndutu Kati Kati is a seasonal tented camp, set up each year to coincide with the wildebeest calving season in the southern Serengeti. It operates when the herds are nearby, which puts guests in a good position for the herds, the new calves and the predators that follow.

The photographs show tents catching golden-hour light against the Ndutu hillside, and a balloon drifting past a silhouetted acacia at sunrise. Animals can be close to camp, and the calving plains bring new life, so mornings and evenings are often the richest part of the day.

Daily life is simple and warm. A chef serves breakfast inside the mess tent, an open-sided dining tent is set for group meals, and twin-bed tents offer a quiet retreat. The camp is part of the Ridge collection, for guests who want a flexible, characterful base during the calving season.

  • Seasonal camp set up to match the wildebeest calving season
  • En-suite guest tents on the Ndutu hillside
  • Wildlife often moving close to camp, though never guaranteed
  • Hot breakfast prepared by a chef in the mess tent
  • Open-sided dining tent arranged for group meals
  • Balloon flights drifting over the plains at sunrise

Setting

The camp sits in the Ndutu area of the southern Serengeti, against a gentle hillside among acacia woodland. To one side the short-grass plains open out, which is where the herds typically gather to calve when conditions suit. Light here at the beginning and end of the day is lovely, and the wide horizon makes for great photography.

Rooms and tents

Guest tents are en-suite, and the photographs show twin beds in a bright, uncluttered interior. The tents are positioned to catch the golden-hour light on the hillside. Comfort is practical, in keeping with a seasonal camp that is built and dismantled each year. Ask us to confirm bed options, tent sizes and any family arrangements.

Dining

A chef serves breakfast to guests inside the mess tent, and an open-sided dining tent is set for group meals later in the day. Meals tend to be fresh and straightforward, with a communal feel. Because the camp is seasonal, supplies are planned around it. Please tell us about dietary requirements well in advance.

Things to do from here

  • Calving-season game drives on the Ndutu plains
  • Predator watching around the calving herds
  • Optional sunrise balloon flight, arranged by Lemala
  • Photography at golden hour
  • Bush breakfasts or picnic lunches

When to stay

Because the camp is timed to calving, January and February are its natural months, when the southern plains are typically busy with herds and predators. The wider Serengeti also shines from July to October. The long rains, roughly March to May, bring green plains, and the short rains come in November and December. Ask us to confirm opening dates.

Good to know

  • This is a seasonal camp, so Lemala confirms its operating dates and exact location for your travel window.
  • Power and connectivity are usually limited at seasonal tented camps; ask us to confirm what to expect.
  • Calving timing depends on rainfall and herd movement, and sightings cannot be promised.
  • Balloon flights and transfers can be arranged through Lemala. Ask us for details.
