About Serengeti Explorer

Serengeti Explorer is a private camp designed to leave a lighter footprint on the plains than the larger properties of the central Serengeti. It has a calmer, more personal feel, and the photographs suggest an interior with real attention paid to texture, lighting and detail.

Suites open onto private balconies with views across the grassland, and a guest reading outside in the photographs captures the pace well. This is a camp for lingering over a book as much as for chasing sightings, though the central Serengeti offers wildlife in good measure.

Inside, dark patterned wallpaper, stone-studded walls and pendant lamps give it a refined, slightly theatrical look. A pool and spa complete the picture. It suits guests who want serious wildlife access with a quiet, polished retreat at the end of every day, and who value privacy over crowds.

  • Suites with private balconies overlooking the open plains
  • Stone-studded walls and warm pendant lighting indoors
  • A pool and spa, rare luxuries on the central plains
  • A dedicated tea and dining nook with considered decor
  • Small, private feel compared with larger central camps
  • Easy access to the central Serengeti's big cats

Setting

The camp sits in the central Serengeti, where open grassland rolls out in every direction and acacias dot the horizon. The balconies in the photographs look straight over this wide space. Expect big skies, big sunsets and the possibility of lion, cheetah, elephant and other plains animals nearby. Central Serengeti is a classic safari landscape and a sound base for game drives in most seasons.

Rooms and tents

Suites are the focus here, each with a private balcony and a bedroom that the photographs show in dark patterned wallpaper and warm lamplight. A dressing area is set up for safari clothing and luggage, which hints at generous space. Expect a refined, boutique feel. Ask us to confirm suite types, bathroom arrangements and which have the best outlook.

Dining

Meals are served in a dining and tea nook decorated with a stone-studded wall, the kind of place that suits a long, unrushed breakfast or an evening meal after a day out. Expect a polished, full-service experience in keeping with the camp's tier. Tell us about preferences and allergies in advance and we will pass them to the team.

Things to do from here

  • Game drives across the central Serengeti plains
  • Spa treatments after a day on safari
  • Relaxing by the pool between drives
  • Sunrise and sunset viewing from your balcony
  • Optional balloon flight, arranged through Lemala

When to stay

The Serengeti is rewarding in July to October, when the migration reaches the northern rivers, and again in January and February, when calving gathers herds on the southern plains. Central Serengeti is a strong base for much of the year. The long rains of roughly March to May bring green but wetter conditions, and November and December bring shorter showers. Ask us which month fits your hopes.

Good to know

  • The camp is intentionally small, so availability can be limited. Book early and ask us to confirm dates.
  • Spa treatments and balloon flights are usually extra. Ask us what is included in your rate.
  • Lemala arranges flights, transfers and game drives as part of your itinerary.
  • Wildlife is wild and sightings cannot be promised, though central Serengeti gives you good odds.
