About Zuri Kilima Siri

Zuri Kilima Siri is a tented camp on the Tarangire circuit, and what sets it apart is the rock. The photographs show tents and buildings perched among granite kopjes and bushveld, with decks built right up against the boulders so that stone becomes part of the architecture.

The details are thoughtful. Guest decks look out over the plains, some with an outdoor bath, and the open-air rain shower is set against a granite boulder with a view of the bush. It feels less like a hotel and more like a very comfortable perch in the landscape.

Setting

The camp occupies a rocky patch of bushveld in the Tarangire region, where granite outcrops rise from the grass and the plains open out below. Elevation from the kopjes gives broad outlooks, and the boulders create sheltered nooks and natural shade. It is a dramatic and quiet setting, rich in birds and, in the dry months, with wildlife drawn to nearby water.

Rooms and tents

Tented suites sit against the rocks, with wooden bed frames and private decks overlooking the plains. When to stay

Tarangire is usually at its best from June to October, when the dry season gathers elephants and other animals near the water and the bushveld is open and easy to scan. Rock decks are especially good for watching then. The long rains typically arrive from March to May and the short rains in November and December, bringing green grass, dramatic skies and excellent birding.

Good to know

Tents are built into rock, so expect steps and uneven ground. Tell us if anyone has mobility needs.
Open-air showers and baths are part of the charm, but can feel cool on early mornings and evenings.
